It was used in perfumery for its woody side and its ability to fix volatile fragrances, it was found at Azzaro, Chanel or Armani. As it causes sunburn due to its photo-toxicity, its collection was abandoned to replace it with chemical materials.
It is also used in flour for bread, as a jelly, or as a leavening agent.
It is found in the embalming products of mummies in Egypt.
It is a bio-monitor of air quality for its bio-accumulative capacities of trace metal elements and radioelements
