This fruticose lichen only grows on the trunks of old larches.

It is one of only two toxic lichens in France, because of the vulpinic acid it contains.

This species was used to make poison for wolves and foxes, which caused respiratory problems and rapid death.

It is used to make a yellow dye.

In California, it was used to stuff mattresses.
