Evernia prunastri
Origin: Saint André en Vivarais
Ardèche - France - Altitude: 1000m

It was used in Egypt for making bread.
It is a lichen used in cooking under the name of “oak moss”.
It helps fight respiratory diseases.
It was used in perfumery for its woody side and its ability to fix volatile fragrances; it was found at Azzaro, Chanel and Armani.
It was harvested, with Pseudevernia furfuracea, mainly in Auvergne. The pickers only collected 20% of the populations, with a rotation of 5 years between two harvests, because of its slow growth. But it can be phototoxic and cause sunburn, so it is increasingly replaced by chemical substitutes.
