It is certainly the most well-known and most used lichen by man. It has multiple virtues, both medicinal and gastronomic.

It is a tonic, it has anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, immuno-modulatory properties.

A tonic elixir for bees is made from this lichen.

Consumed in many Nordic countries, it was once used in the recipe for hosts.

By soaking it in water you get a jelly.
