Baeomyces rufus

Origin: Saint André en Vivarais

Ardèche - France - Altitude: 1000m

Baeomyces rufus 2.jpg

This crustose lichen grows on rocks or on the ground, but always facing north.

The thallus is this green crust when wet or gray green when dry and when conditions allow, we can observe the pink apothecia which turn brown when drying.

In rainy weather, the effect is most impressive with this contrast between green and pink.
